Ruk grew up in Beechlake, and like many of the boys followed his father's profession in lumber jacking. His ancestors had come here generations ago, and it is the only place he has ever known, aside from the Marblewyn forest that surrounds them. His Great-grandfather was the one who actually cut down the largest tree when helping build the initial village, and it is this wood that made the statue in the town center, and earned his family the name GreatOak.
Ruk takes great pride in his family history and strives to be the best woodcutter there, often taking two axes up the tree with him and hacking away. He refuses to come down until the job is done, hating leaving a job unfinished.
He'd grown up quite happily in the village and made fast friends with five of the other boys, two of whom moved away to the big city. He was stronger than most of the others, and quicker, but lacked the common sense to think carefully about what he was going to say before he said it, and this occasionally led to tension. Fortunatly, he was generally good hearted if a little mischievous, and remained fast friends with the three who stayed.
When the loggers first started disappearing, two of his friends, Carl and Wudlin were among them. The other, Yemji, was a fisherman, but had been so spooked by the affair he would rarely venture down to the water without someone else, usually Ruk.

Anyone without a character up by the end of the weekend who wishes to take part will have a penalty added to their character.

Kuai Nu was born to a rich family of well-off merchants. All through his youth he had anything and everything he could ever have wanted and more, he needed only to ask and he would receive. And so, he grew complacent with life, he believed he was at peace with the world, that nothing could break that belief. The naieve hopes of a young person. One day, not so long ago, he came across a group of people who had fled from a town near the Great Border, bringing with them tales of mysterious dissapearences of townsfolk there. It was then that his peace was shattered. The stories the travellers told made him realise that all in the world was not well, that life is not the same for others. And so he decided then and there, to give up his comfortable life, donate his fortune to the travellers so they could start again. His family took great affront to this act and disowned him. Now, without a home or a family or a name, he travels to the afflicted town to help them, calling himself Xīn Línghún

Gren was never anything special, actually rather quite ugly, with too high ears, a deep brow and blocky chin. Hated even by his own mother from birth (well he suppose it must've been that never having had a kind word from her) he was beaten regularly but he grew tougher. Parents can believe in tough love, or well, no love at all.
Since he was kicked out of the little abode by his parents at the ripe old age of 12, Gren has done many a thing to just get by, often accepting hospitality from those who offered, and taking on odd jobs every now and again - he made his way to manhood. It is said he once tamed a wolf, who stalked off two minutes later after getting sick of Gren's face.
The singlemost highlight of Gren's life was winning a swimming competition for a small sum of silver, put aside with everything else he tried to start a small buisiness out in the middle of nowhere, on the edge of this forest. As with everything else in his life this too fell on its head, leaving him penniless with naught but a big stick and the clothes on his back, he sets forth to see what life hurls at him this time. As it definately was not much fun nearly drowning because he had the wits to fall out of the wrong side of that tree -.-, that must've been the foul work of magic.
Once upon a time he thought he was different, important, now he knows otherwise.

Magical Affinity

Sutiro is a down on his luck petty thief. He spends his days on the streets watching for careless people, with money or valuable goods on display. He'll steal what he can, and sell it all, just to save enough money to buy medicine for his dying Mother.

He wasn't always a thief, there once was a time when he lived happily with his family. Him, and his parents. Sure, they didn't have much, but what they had was more than enough for them. His Father worked in one of the factories in Yentin which payed enough for them to get by. But then he lost his job because of an up and coming inventors creation, which made him redundant. So, he took to the drink and the pleasant family that once existed became a horrible place. It was then that Sutiro began spending time on the streets, to get away from his Father's drunken rage.

And then matters were complicated when his Mother fell ill. None of the cities doctors could tell them why, or what of. The ones they could afford of course. By this time his Father had long since passed away. And so Sutiro steals to get the money needed to get his Mother cured.
